Conference Overview

The building safety, fire and security landscape in Malaysia is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by urbanisation, regulatory tightening and recent high-impact incidents. As cities expand vertically and infrastructure projects accelerate, the demand for robust fire protection and integrated security systems has intensified, with greater emphasis on smart technologies such as IoT-enabled detection, real-time monitoring and automated response systems. At the same time, major incidents such as the 2025 Putra Heights gas pipeline fire and a fire broke out at Petronas Tower 3 on the morning of November last year which caused damages and injuries, have heightened public awareness and reinforced the urgency of strengthening safety frameworks across residential, industrial and public environments.

Despite progress, significant challenges persist. Fire incidents remain a critical and recurring risk across Malaysia, exposing gaps in compliance, enforcement and building design resilience. Key issues include ageing infrastructure, inconsistent adherence to fire codes, high implementation costs for advanced systems and a shortage of skilled professionals to design, install and maintain safety solutions. Additionally, fragmented processes in building approvals and safety compliance often reliant on manual systems, limit efficiency and coordination among stakeholders, highlighting the need for digital integration.

This conference will address the urgent need for a holistic, future-ready approach to building safety, security and fire protection. Critical areas to be covered include strengthening regulatory enforcement and governance, integrating smart and sustainable technologies, enhancing emergency preparedness and evacuation planning, and developing skilled talent pipelines. It will also explore cross-sector collaboration between developers, regulators, engineers and technology providers to create safer built environments. Ultimately, the conference aims to move beyond compliance towards resilience, ensuring that Malaysia’s buildings are not only safe by design, but adaptive to evolving risks in an increasingly complex urban landscape.
